About Triveni Sangam



Trivani sangam confluence of three rivers. Sangama is the Sanskrit word for confluence. Allahabad is also called Prayag . In Prayag has two rivers Ganga, Yamuna and invisible Saraswati River. Allahabad is very importance for Kumbh Mela held every 12 years.

 The three rivers maintain their identity and are visibly as they merge.The Yamuna is deep but calm and greenish in colour. The Ganga is shallow, but forceful and clear. The Saraswati rivers hidden but peoples believes that she makes her presence felt underwater.

Kumbh Mela

Kumbh Mela is a mass Hindu pilgrimage of faith in which Hindus gather to bathe in the holy river.It is held on every third year in one of four places - Haridwar, Allahabad, Nashik , Ujjain.
The Kumbh mela is held at each places in twelveth year. Ardh Kumbh mela is held on only two places , Haridwar and Allahabad.In Allahabad, Ganga,Yamuna and invisible Saraswati have met in one place also called sangam.
The Name kumbh Mela comes from Hindi and Sanskrit .



Kumbh Mela in Allahabad 

The magh mela(Kumb Mela) is the greatest annual festival of Hindus . The Kumbh Mela is held on the bank of rivers Ganga Yamuna and Saraswati(Triveni Sangam) in every year of Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh. According to the Hindu calendar in North India this holy fair is organized every year in hindu month of Magh(corresponding to mid January – mid February of the Gregorian calender). The kumbh mela total days of fair 45 days. 

In January, Makker Sankranti is the first bathing dates in Kumbh Mela according to Hindu religious calendar. The large number of people arrive here and stay in tent houses at the sangam. They spends the 45 days in kumbh mela. This period is called ‘Kalpvas’. Those people stay here also known as ‘Kalpvasis’.  During each day the magh mela, a  kalpvasis has to take dip at the Ganges on sunrise praying to the rising sun. After observing 12 kalpvas, a kalpavasis has to donate his/her bed and all his belongings (a ritual known as “Shayya Daan”). The Utter Pradesh Government annually makes special arrangement for this time. A number of buses ply to let pilgrims have their journey in peace and without any inconvenience. Most of the peoples come to all over the world in kumbh mela for bathing . A township of tents specially come up on the banks of sangam to provide shelter to the visiting millions who turn up from all over the country. The medical and security arrangements are made to avoid incidents. ‘Lost and found’ camps are available for missing persons through local police in the kumbh mela. Millions of people who arrives here during this time to attend this grand event.

Weclcome to Allahabad


Allahabad is the smallest city in north Indian state of  Uttar Pradesh. It is also known as Prayag or Sangam Nagri. 
Allahabad is basically famious for Sangam River. Sangam is the place where three rivers (Ganga,Yamuna and Saraswati) are meet.

Allahabad has hosted cultural and sporting events, including Kumbh Mela and the Indira Marathon.
